Remote/keyless programming on 2003-2009 Toyota smart key vehicles (e.g. Prius XW20) using the door and key sequence

Manual sequence to programme the remote/keyless side on models with the first keyless-entry system, for example the second generation Toyota Prius XW20 from 2003-2009. No AVDI connection is needed: the procedure is done with the door, the key and the slot.

⚠ WarningThe procedure only applies to the older keyless-entry system (for example the Toyota Prius second generation XW20 2003-2009). The sequence must be carried out without interruptions and in the exact order.

Procedure

  1. Close all doors except the driver's door.
  2. Insert and remove the key from the slot twice.
  3. Close, open, close, open the driver's door.
  4. Insert and remove the key from the slot once.
  5. Close, open, close, open the driver's door.
  6. Insert the key into the slot.
  7. Close the driver's door.
  8. Cycle the ignition to IGN ON and then to OFF.
  9. Remove the key from the slot: the door locks will cycle.
  10. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons together for 1 second, release, then press the lock button alone for 3 seconds.
  11. The locks cycle: that is the confirmation that programming has been carried out.
  12. Open, close, open the driver's door to exit the procedure.
