Adding an H-type key (DST AES, 128 bit) via OBD with a working key

Toyota/Lexus Interface Classic Keys / Immo Medium ⏱ 15-30 min 7 steps

Guided procedure for adding an H-type (DST AES) mechanical key on a Toyota with a Tokai Rika immobox, when you have the car and a working key. It applies to all three immobox generations (1st generation US market, 1st generation EU market, 2nd generation): the software identifies them on its own.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • cavo OBDII
  • PROTAG
⚠ WarningA module reset must ONLY be requested when all keys are lost. If the new key is not already prepared, it has to be prepared before starting the procedure.

Procedure

  1. Get hold of the vehicle's working key and the key to be added (new, used or an Abrites TA30 key). If the new key is not already prepared, prepare it first with "Transponder Tool" ("H" keys).
  2. Connect the AVDI to the OBDII socket, start the software and launch the key programming procedure: when prompted on screen, turn the ignition ON and move to the next step.
  3. When the software asks whether you want to reset the module, answer NO: the reset is only for the all keys lost case.
  4. At the next prompt, turn the ignition ON using the working key.
  5. Now present the new key according to the vehicle's specification: if the car has "Key in switch", simply insert the new key into the slot WITHOUT turning the ignition ON; if the car does not have "Key in switch", turn the new key to the ON position.
  6. Choose whether to add another key, repeating the previous step, or to store the current key and exit the procedure.
  7. If the customer has lost keys and wants them made unusable, after programming go into module 6 in diagnostics and erase the previously programmed keys (the function does not yet cover 100% of models; the list grows with software updates).
