Reading and writing ECU configuration data: "Read ConfData", "Update ConfData", "Load from file" and "Make Virgin"

Moto Interface Classic Coding / Adaptations Advanced ⏱ 30-60 min 8 steps

The "Read/ Update ConfData" function lets you read and rewrite the configuration data of supported control units on bikes, snowmobiles and water scooters, load it from a previously saved file and, on ECUs that allow it, take it back to virgin state with "Make Virgin". It is typically used when replacing or re-adapting a module.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
⚠ WarningAlways read the configuration with "Read Confdata" and keep the file before writing anything: "Load from file" only works if you saved the data before the update.

Procedure

  1. Connect the AVDI to the vehicle's diagnostic connector and select the vehicle on the "Vehicle selection" tab.
  2. Open the "Special functions" tab and start the "Read/ Update ConfData" function.
  3. From the function's drop-down menu select the electronic module you want to work on.
  4. Press "Read Confdata" to read the configuration data of the selected module and save the backup file.
  5. To write the data back to the module press "Update Confdata".
  6. If you need to restore or transfer a previously saved configuration, use "Load from file", select the file, then run the update.
  7. If the ECU supports it and you need it back in virgin state, use "Make Virgin" to virginise the ECU's CONF DATA.
  8. When you are done, check operation with an identification read and with "Read DTC".
