The "Key learning" function on the "Special functions" tab prepares keys step by step for the supported models. This procedure covers keys with Temic transponders, which need the TAG programmer connected to the AVDI. Key learning is available on various Aprilia, BMW, BRP, Gilera, Harley-Davidson, Vespa and Piaggio models.

⚠ WarningThe transponder programmer has to be connected to the AVDI before you start key learning: if it is missing, the software throws a connection error. For newer BMW bikes with DST transponders use the BMW online software, not this procedure.
Procedure
Connect the TAG transponder programmer to the AVDI and connect the AVDI to the bike's diagnostic connector.
Select the vehicle on the "Vehicle selection" tab, then open the "Special functions" tab.
Start the "Key learning" function and follow the on-screen instructions.
Wait for the software to establish the connection with the ECU: the screen confirms the link is up.
At the next prompt, select the position of the key to be programmed.
Choose the operation by pressing the matching button: clone the existing transponder or replace it.
If you are working with a master key, leave the position at the default value the software offers.
Press "Next": the software shows you how to place the transponder in the key programmer's aerial.
Place the transponder as shown and press "Next" again.
Wait a few seconds: when it finishes, the transponder is ready to use.
Try the key on the vehicle to confirm it starts.
