Before ordering or preparing a key it pays to know exactly what you are holding. The "Transponder Tool" function identifies the transponder type and the content programmed inside it.

Procedure
Connect the PROTAG programmer to the PC before opening the "Transponder Tool" special function: the list of sub-functions (identification, cloning, preparation/production, programming by dump) only appears once the PROTAG is detected.
Keep the programmer away from metal surfaces while working on the transponder antenna and seat the key or transponder correctly in the PROTAG.
Hold the key or transponder close to the programmer antenna and press the "Read/Identify" button.
Read the on-screen message: it gives the transponder type and the programmed content; if the type is one of the known ones, the full definition is shown as well (for example "Texas Crypto 4D type ID67 - Master").
Interpret the result. Fixed Texas 4C: holds only the identification number, no authentication logic. ID33: fixed numbers programmed into the transponder, used by the immobiliser for identification. Texas 4D crypto: programmable data fields plus a 40-bit secret key; depending on the content it is called ID67 (Toyota/Scion), ID68 (Lexus) or ID70 (Toyota Europe). Texas DST+: similar to the 4D but with more data memory and an 80-bit secret key, used in smart systems (keyless keys) and in normal keys known as G-chip.
Remember that the software only recognises transponders and keys used on Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles: on other makes the result is meaningless.
