The full procedure for replacing a VGS4-NAG2 7G-Tronic gearbox control unit on Mercedes FBS4/DAS4 when the original TCU can still be read in the vehicle. You save the FBS4 data and the configuration from the original unit and transfer them to the donor, all over OBDII if you hold all the Abrites Mercedes licenses.
Required licences
MN039
Hardware / cables
AVDI
CB100/CB106 OBDII
⚠ WarningWithout the configuration data backup ("Save All Config Data") alongside the FBS4 data you will not be able to personalize the donor unit properly: do both saves before removing the original TCU. The unit activates automatically after 100 key cycles.
Procedure
Connect the AVDI to the vehicle OBDII socket with the ORIGINAL TCU still fitted and working.
Open the Mercedes FBS4 Manager software and select "TCU".
Press "Info" to establish the connection and check the unit status.
Press "Save" to read and save the original unit's FBS4 data to a file on the PC.
Once the read is complete, also back up the configuration data: TCU > "Utilities" > "Save All Config Data". You need it together with the FBS4 data to personalize the donor.
Fit the donor unit to the vehicle.
Reopen the Mercedes FBS4 Manager software and select "TCU" again.
Press "Info" to establish the connection with the donor.
Press "Personalize" and select the file with the FBS4 data saved from the original TCU.
When the software prompts you, turn the key to IGN OFF and then ON to finalize the procedure.
Program the configuration data: "Utilities" > "Program All Config Data", using the files saved from the original TCU.
Set the vehicle VIN on the unit.
If the software versions of the original and donor need aligning, use the "Program" button.
Remind the customer that final activation of the unit happens automatically after 100 ignition cycles.
