Renewing an Intelligent Servo Module (ISM)

Mercedes Interface Classic Special Functions Advanced ⏱ varies (plus 2 minutes of sleep) 6 steps

A special function to renew ISM (Intelligent Servo Module) units already adapted to a car. ISMs can be renewed either on the car via the internal CAN connection or on the bench, off the vehicle.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
⚠ WarningAt the end of the renew the software asks you to unplug the AVDI cable from the OBD socket and lock the car for 2 minutes: the vehicle must go to sleep, so do not touch anything once it is locked. Follow the instructions to the letter.

Procedure

  1. Connect to the ISM unit on the car via the internal CAN connection, or on the bench off the vehicle.
  2. Run the renew procedure as described for the 722.9 units (unit identification, "Make Virgin", selecting the renew database file folder, waiting for the progress bar).
  3. When the renew procedure is complete, MB Diagnostics asks you to unplug the AVDI cable from the car's OBD diagnostic socket and lock the vehicle for 2 minutes: the car must go to sleep, do not touch anything after locking it.
  4. After the 2 minutes have passed, unlock the vehicle.
  5. At this point you can go ahead and adapt the ISM unit.
  6. Note: using the DAS Manager for module renew is strongly recommended.
