The personalization data file is the basis of every successful FBS4 replacement: here you can see which ECUs can be read directly over OBDII and how the VIN is handled, since the rules change depending on whether you personalize with or without the original's data.

⚠ WarningIf you personalize WITHOUT saved FBS data, the VIN has to be written to the unit BEFORE personalization: if the donor ECU's VIN is not the vehicle's, the procedure will not complete. In the normal flow (with saved data) the VIN is written after personalization instead.
Procedure
Connect the AVDI over OBDII to the vehicle (CB106 cable) with the original ECU fitted, open the FBS4 Manager and select the ECU section.
Press "Info" to establish the connection, then "Save" to read the FBS4 personalization data and save the file to the PC.
OBDII reading is available on: MED17, EDC17, SID310, Delphi-CRD3 ECUs (CR40, CR41, CR42, CR43, CR6, CR60, CR61, MED40, MED41, MED177, MED1773, MED1775, CRR1, CRR1+, CRD3, CRD3S2, CRD3NFZ, CRD3S2NFZ) and on all MRD1, MRG1, MRG2, CRR2, EMS71 with no build-year restriction.
If the unit cannot be read over OBDII, read it on the bench using the wiring diagrams given in the dedicated section of the manual.
WRITING THE VIN: press the "VIN" button and enter the vehicle's correct VIN in the window. Writing can be done in the vehicle over OBDII or on the bench.
If the VIN write does not go through over OBDII, repeat the procedure with the connection through the ZN051 DS Box, which is needed in these cases to update the unit's VIN.
Remember the order of the steps: with saved FBS data -> personalization first, then VIN; without saved FBS data -> VIN first, then personalization.
