This is what you need when the original engine ECU is missing or too badly damaged to be read: the FBS4 Manager personalizes a virgin or new unit over OBDII anyway, without the original's file. It requires the MN034 license and only applies to the ECUs listed.

⚠ WarningMN034 license required. Personalization without saved data is supported ONLY on: MED177, MED1775, MED40, CR40, CR41, CR42, CR43, CR60LS, CR61, CRD3XXNFZ (plus Bosch EDC17, Bosch MED17, MRD1/MRG1 and MED41 as stated in chapter 4.1). MRD1/MRG1 follow their own separate procedure.
Procedure
Fit the replacement ECU to the vehicle and connect the AVDI over OBDII with the CB106 cable. If the unit is new or already virgin, go straight to step 3.
If you are working with a used donor ECU, open the FBS4 Manager, select ECU, press "Info" to read the unit and check its status, then press "Virgin" to bring it to virgin state. In most cases this is done over OBDII; for units not covered over OBDII use bench virginizing.
Press "Personalize": the software asks you to load the file saved from the original ECU. Here you have to press "cancel" on the file load, because the original is not available or cannot be read.
The procedure carries on over OBDII: when the connection is established and the new screen appears, select the "standard" option.
When the procedure has finished press "Info" and check the unit reports as personalized. The vehicle must start normally: "Activate" is not needed, activation happens on its own after 100 ignition cycles while the vehicle runs normally.
As the last step press the "VIN" button and, in the window that appears, write the vehicle's correct VIN into the unit.
