McLaren: ADI, CCU, ECM and HVAC diagnostic tests (speakers, adaptive damping, throttle, climate sensors)

McLaren Interface Classic Diagnostics Medium ⏱ 20-45 min 10 steps

Complete test routines for assessing system performance and component functionality on McLarens: audio system, adaptive damper configuration, engine diagnostics (cams, catalyst, purge canister, secondary air) with throttle adaptation handling, and electrical testing of the climate control sensors.

Required licences

  • ML001

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
⚠ WarningChock all the vehicle's wheels before the tests and work in a properly ventilated area, ducting the exhaust gases out of the workshop: the engine tests may call for the engine to be running (Abrites safety instructions).

Procedure

  1. Plug the AVDI into the OBDII socket, switch the ignition on and open "Abrites Diagnostics for McLaren Online", selecting the correct model.
  2. Run a "Full Vehicle Scan" and read the DTCs to pin down the faulty system before launching the tests.
  3. Enter "Special Functions" and open the diagnostic tests section ("Diagnostic Tests").
  4. For the audio system select "[ADI] Speaker System and Output Tests": the test checks the speaker system and audio outputs, useful for isolating a dead speaker or a failed output channel.
  5. For the chassis select "[CCU] Adaptive Damping Configuration Check": it checks the adaptive damper configuration, typically after work on the suspension or the CCU.
  6. For the engine select "[ECM] Cam Control, Catalyst, Purge System, and Secondary Air Diagnostics": it runs the cam timing control, catalyst, purge (canister) and secondary air diagnostics.
  7. If you have to work on the throttle body use "[ECM] Throttle Adaptations Clear/Save" to clear or save the throttle adaptations; always save the adaptations before clearing them if you want to be able to restore them.
  8. For the climate control select "[HVAC] Sensor Electrical Test" for the electrical test of the sensors: it tells a genuinely failed sensor from a wiring problem.
  9. Follow the conditions each test calls for on screen (ignition on, engine running or stopped) and wait for the result without breaking the connection.
  10. When finished, clear the faults generated by the tests with "Read/Clear DTCs" and repeat the "Full Vehicle Scan" as a check.
