Crankshaft/Camshaft Correlation — Bank 2 Sensor A
Meaning
The ECU detects a misalignment between the crankshaft position and the Bank 2 intake camshaft position (CMP). The phase offset exceeds the permitted threshold during engine operation.
Common causes
- Stretched or jumped timing chain on Bank 2
- Sticking or blocked intake VVT actuator on Bank 2
- Faulty or intermittent Bank 2 intake CMP sensor
- Faulty CKP sensor or excessive air gap to reluctor wheel
- Insufficient oil pressure to the Bank 2 VVT actuator
Symptoms
- Check-engine light (MIL) on
- Hard start or no-start condition
- Rough running and reduced performance
- Increased fuel consumption
- Possible timing chain rattle
Severity
High: timing misalignment can cause severe internal engine damage; stop and diagnose before further driving.
What to do
- Check engine oil level and condition
- Inspect the Bank 2 timing chain for slack or tooth skip
- Test the Bank 2 intake VVT actuator: oil pressure and flow
- Test the Bank 2 intake CMP sensor (resistance and waveform)
- Replace any out-of-specification components
