Pressure Control Solenoid A Electrical
Meaning
The transmission control module has detected an electrical fault in the pressure control solenoid A (PCS A) circuit: short to battery, short to ground, or open circuit. The current signal to the solenoid is outside expected parameters.
Common causes
- Short to battery in the PCS A control wire
- Short to ground in the PCS A control wire
- Open circuit (broken wire or disconnected connector) in the PCS A circuit
- PCS A solenoid with internally shorted or open coil
- Oxidised or corroded connectors on the transmission housing or wiring harness
- Internal TCM fault on the PCS A solenoid driver
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Harsh or absent gear shifts
- Transmission in limp mode
- Clutch slippage in the transmission
- Transmission overheating
Severity
High: the electrical fault disables hydraulic pressure regulation, causing rapid clutch wear in the transmission.
What to do
- Measure PCS A solenoid resistance (typically 3–8 Ω); replace if outside specification
- Check supply voltage and command current at the solenoid connector with a multimeter
- Inspect wiring harness between the TCM and solenoid for shorts or open circuits
- Check transmission housing connectors for corrosion
- Replace the TCM only after ruling out all external circuit faults
