Knock Sensor 1 Circuit — Fault (Bank 1)
Meaning
The bank 1 knock sensor circuit is faulty. The ECU loses its reference for detecting knock (detonation) and adopts a conservative strategy.
Common causes
- Failed knock sensor
- Open, shorted or loose wiring/connector
- Sensor not tightened to the specified torque
- Damaged cable shielding causing electrical interference
- Faulty reference ground
- Rarely, a faulty input inside the ECU
Symptoms
- Reduced power from retarded ignition timing
- Increased fuel consumption
- Possible knocking noise under load
- Check-engine light on
- Less responsive acceleration
Severity
Moderate: the engine runs but in a protective mode, with less performance and higher consumption.
What to do
- Read freeze-frame data and check the knock sensor signal
- Inspect the connector, wiring and cable shielding
- Verify the sensor is tightened to the specified torque
- Replace the sensor if wiring and torque are correct but the signal stays abnormal
