MAF sensor circuit low input

Meaning

The control unit detects a mass air flow sensor signal that is lower than expected. The measured airflow falls below the plausible threshold.

Common causes

  • Dirty or faulty mass air flow sensor
  • Open or short-to-ground sensor wiring or connector
  • Intake blockage or clogged air filter
  • Air leak skewing the measurement
  • Incorrect sensor supply or ground

Symptoms

  • Engine stalling or tendency to stall
  • Hesitation on acceleration
  • Reduced power
  • Rough idle
  • Check-engine light on

Severity

Moderate: the car may stall or lose power; it is best to diagnose it promptly to avoid sudden engine cut-outs.

What to do

  1. Read the MAF value live and confirm the abnormally low signal
  2. Check the sensor supply, ground and wiring continuity, inspecting the connectors
  3. Inspect the intake duct for blockage and air leaks and check the air filter
  4. Clean or replace the mass air flow sensor if the signal stays low
