MAF sensor circuit low input
Meaning
The control unit detects a mass air flow sensor signal that is lower than expected. The measured airflow falls below the plausible threshold.
Common causes
- Dirty or faulty mass air flow sensor
- Open or short-to-ground sensor wiring or connector
- Intake blockage or clogged air filter
- Air leak skewing the measurement
- Incorrect sensor supply or ground
Symptoms
- Engine stalling or tendency to stall
- Hesitation on acceleration
- Reduced power
- Rough idle
- Check-engine light on
Severity
Moderate: the car may stall or lose power; it is best to diagnose it promptly to avoid sudden engine cut-outs.
What to do
- Read the MAF value live and confirm the abnormally low signal
- Check the sensor supply, ground and wiring continuity, inspecting the connectors
- Inspect the intake duct for blockage and air leaks and check the air filter
- Clean or replace the mass air flow sensor if the signal stays low
