Fuel Volume Regulator Control Circuit Range/Performance
Meaning
The FCV command signal is present but the rail pressure response falls outside the expected range. The ECM detects a functional error, not a wiring fault.
Common causes
- Partially stuck or worn FCV valve
- Rail pressure out of range due to internal pump leakage
- Clogged fuel filter restricting flow
- Fuel leak in the high-pressure circuit
- Abnormal wiring resistance (not enough to open the circuit)
Symptoms
- Check-engine light on
- Erratic or insufficient rail pressure
- Power loss and sluggish acceleration
- Increased smoke or emissions
- Possible limp-home mode
Severity
High: compromised fuel regulation affects performance and emissions; diagnose without delay.
What to do
- Read live rail pressure data and compare against target values
- Check fuel filter condition and replace if clogged
- Inspect FCV for mechanical wear or sticking
- Check the high-pressure circuit for fuel leaks
- Consider pump replacement if internal leakage is confirmed
