Shift Solenoid C Electrical
Meaning
The transmission control module has detected an electrical fault in the shift solenoid C (SSC) circuit: short to battery, short to ground, or open circuit. The current signal to the solenoid is outside specification.
Common causes
- Short to battery in the SSC solenoid control wire
- Short to ground in the SSC solenoid control wire
- Open circuit (broken wire or disconnected connector) in the SSC circuit
- SSC solenoid with internally shorted or open coil
- Oxidised or corroded connectors on the transmission housing or wiring harness
- Internal TCM fault on the SSC solenoid driver
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Transmission in limp mode
- Harsh or absent gear shifts in SSC-governed gears
- Clutch slippage in the transmission
- Transmission overheating
Severity
High: the electrical fault disables SSC, causing incorrect gear selection and clutch damage.
What to do
- Measure SSC solenoid resistance with a multimeter (typically 10–15 Ω)
- Check supply voltage and command current at the solenoid connector
- Inspect wiring between the TCM and SSC for shorts or open circuits
- Check transmission housing connectors for corrosion
- Replace SSC solenoid or TCM after thorough diagnosis
