Pressure Control Solenoid A Performance/Stuck Off
Meaning
The transmission control module has detected that pressure control solenoid A (PCS A) is not delivering the expected hydraulic pressure in response to the command signal. The solenoid is stuck in the de-energised (off) position or its performance is insufficient.
Common causes
- PCS A mechanically stuck in the open (off) position due to wear or deposits
- Valve body obstructed by deposits in the PCS A circuit
- Degraded or contaminated ATF impairing solenoid operation
- Clogged ATF filter reducing available pressure
- Open circuit in wiring to PCS A
- Internal TCM fault in the control circuit
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or absent gear shifts
- Transmission slippage
- Transmission in limp mode
- Transmission overheating
Severity
High: loss of hydraulic pressure regulation causes accelerated clutch wear and risk of severe transmission damage.
What to do
- Check ATF level and condition; replace if degraded
- Measure PCS A solenoid resistance with a multimeter
- Inspect wiring to PCS A for open circuits
- Measure transmission hydraulic pressure during operation with a gauge
- Replace PCS A solenoid or overhaul the valve body if necessary
