Injector Driver Circuit Bank 1 — Malfunction
Meaning
The ECM has detected a fault in the injector driver circuit for bank 1. The internal ECM driver responsible for activating the bank 1 injectors has an electrical anomaly that compromises its operation.
Common causes
- Short circuit or open circuit in the bank 1 injector wiring harness
- One or more bank 1 injectors with out-of-specification resistance overloading the driver
- Internal ECM driver failure for bank 1
- Oxidation or deterioration of bank 1 injector connectors
- ECM driver thermal overload
- Disturbed or broken ECM ground connection
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminated
- Multiple misfires across all bank 1 cylinders
- Engine running on bank 2 cylinders only
- Severe power reduction and rough running
- Possible limp-home mode active
Severity
High: failure of the entire bank 1 driver causes widespread misfire, catalytic converter risk, and severe performance degradation.
What to do
- Measure resistance of each bank 1 injector and check wiring for shorts
- Disconnect injectors one at a time to isolate any short circuits overloading the driver
- Verify ECM supply voltage and ground connections
- Read DTCs associated with individual bank 1 cylinders
- Replace the ECM if the internal driver is confirmed irreparably faulty
