EGR Control Circuit A Low
Meaning
The ECU detects below-expected voltage on EGR actuator control output A, indicating a short to ground in the circuit. The ECU cannot properly drive the EGR valve.
Common causes
- Short to ground in EGR actuator wiring harness
- Failed EGR actuator solenoid with shorted winding (low resistance to ground)
- Corroded connector creating a ground path
- Damaged wiring insulation
Symptoms
- MIL illuminated
- EGR valve non-functional (stuck open or closed depending on failure mode)
- Possible detonation or rough idle
Severity
Moderate severity: a non-functional EGR increases emissions and may cause detonation.
What to do
- Measure EGR solenoid resistance to ground (should be open except through the coil)
- Inspect harness for short to ground
- Check ECU output pin voltage
- Repair harness or replace actuator
