EGR Control Circuit A Low

Meaning

The ECU detects below-expected voltage on EGR actuator control output A, indicating a short to ground in the circuit. The ECU cannot properly drive the EGR valve.

Common causes

  • Short to ground in EGR actuator wiring harness
  • Failed EGR actuator solenoid with shorted winding (low resistance to ground)
  • Corroded connector creating a ground path
  • Damaged wiring insulation

Symptoms

  • MIL illuminated
  • EGR valve non-functional (stuck open or closed depending on failure mode)
  • Possible detonation or rough idle

Severity

Moderate severity: a non-functional EGR increases emissions and may cause detonation.

What to do

  1. Measure EGR solenoid resistance to ground (should be open except through the coil)
  2. Inspect harness for short to ground
  3. Check ECU output pin voltage
  4. Repair harness or replace actuator
