Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit (Bank 1)
Meaning
The ECU detects a fault in the camshaft position sensor signal. Without a reliable camshaft reference, the management of injection and ignition is compromised.
Common causes
- Failed camshaft position sensor
- Faulty or oxidised sensor wiring or connector
- Damaged or dirty camshaft tone/reluctor wheel
- Incorrect air gap or poorly mounted sensor
- Timing issue distorting the signal
Symptoms
- Hard starting or a no-start condition
- Sudden stalling
- Hesitation and rough running
- Possible limp mode
- Check-engine light on
Severity
Moderate: the car may fail to start or may stall, but usually without direct mechanical damage.
What to do
- Check the camshaft sensor signal live while cranking
- Inspect the sensor wiring, connector and ground
- Inspect the camshaft tone wheel for damage or dirt
- Replace the sensor if it does not produce a correct signal and recheck
