MAP sensor range/performance
Meaning
The control unit detects that the manifold absolute pressure sensor signal is implausible for the engine's operating conditions. The measured pressure value is inconsistent.
Common causes
- Faulty manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor
- Intake air leak
- Disconnected, cracked or blocked sensor vacuum hose
- Restriction in the intake manifold
- Faulty sensor wiring or connector
Symptoms
- Rough idle
- Poor fuel economy
- Hesitation and inconsistent response
- Possible loss of power
- Check-engine light on
Severity
Moderate: the car is drivable but fueling is less precise; it is best to fix it to restore correct engine control.
What to do
- Read the MAP sensor value live and compare it with expected pressure at key-on and at idle
- Check the sensor vacuum hose (connection, integrity and cleanliness)
- Look for an intake air leak and inspect the sensor wiring and connector
- If the signal remains implausible, replace the MAP sensor
