Meaning

The MAF sensor signal drops out or spikes intermittently. The fault is not continuously present, which makes diagnosis more complex.

Common causes

• Loose or corroded MAF connector
• Cracked or damaged signal wire susceptible to vibration
• Contaminated sensing element with intermittent contact loss
• Intermittent ground fault

• Intermittent MIL
• Hesitation or stumble under load
• Brief misfires
• Unstable fuel trims

1. Perform a wiggle test on the MAF harness while monitoring signal live with a scan tool
2. Inspect connector pins and wiring for damage
3. Clean MAF sensing element
