System Disabled — Information Stored (ESP/ABS)
Meaning
The stability control module has disabled its own function because another required module or signal is invalid. It is not a direct mechanical fault: the system goes safe because of another anomaly present on the network.
Common causes
- Active codes in other modules (engine, ABS, steering) inhibiting the ESP
- Low or unstable system voltage
- Lost communication with a related module
- Incorrect module configuration/coding
- Steering angle or yaw sensor not calibrated
Symptoms
- ESP/ABS light on
- Stability and traction control disabled
- Other 'upstream' codes often present
- Possible limitations of other aids
Severity
Moderate: usually the consequence of another fault; the 'upstream' problem indicated by the other codes must be found and fixed.
What to do
- Read codes from ALL modules, not just the ESP
- Fix the primary faults first (e.g. lost communication, wheel sensor)
- Check system voltage and grounds
- Recalibrate/recode the module if required after repairs
