Driver Airbag Control (Deployment Circuit)
Meaning
The airbag module detects a fault in the deployment (squib) circuit of the driver frontal airbag. The circuit resistance is out of spec: the system disables that device for safety and turns on the airbag light.
Common causes
- Worn or open clock spring
- Loose or corroded connector under the seat/steering wheel
- Damaged deployment circuit wiring
- Faulty airbag module (unit)
- Actuator resistance out of spec
Symptoms
- Airbag light on steady
- Driver airbag function disabled
- Possibly other restraint system codes
- Horn or steering wheel controls intermittent (clock spring)
Severity
Serious (safety): the affected airbag may not deploy in a crash; have it checked by qualified personnel.
What to do
- Do NOT work without safety procedures (disconnect battery, wait, handle with care)
- Check the clock spring and driver airbag circuit connectors
- Measure circuit resistance to the maker's spec
- Clear codes and re-check; leave restraint systems to qualified personnel
